Our Story

The Monkton Community Coffeehouse, a charitable nonprofit, was founded in 2007 by Pete Sutherland, Vermont’s balladeer, to serve as a catalyst to grow community. Eighteen years later, the Coffeehouse is excited to announce the launch of a new community media portal – WVVT 94.7: Voices of Vermont, combining a digital streaming platform and a low power FM radio station broadcasting from Bristol, Vermont.

WVVT’s mission is to grow a grassroots community platform that awakens, reconnects, and revitalizes the 5-Town Community through inspiration and action, education and entertainment. We will also provide critical information services by serving as a hub to share local news and emergency communications.

We aim to serve our uniquely rural geography by elevating and giving voice to our communities’ stories, passions, and concerns, and by promoting a place-based culture of freedom, unity, and responsibility; of honesty, empathy, and mutual respect. Our vision is simple: let’s co-create the community we desire in this beautiful place we call home.

The dream is to return, to come home to ourselves, to each other, to the land and all our relations, to make our community whole again, to heal. It’s an inside job—no one can do this but us! The original meaning of Community is “a sharing of gifts.” We offer this portal in that spirit because we can’t do this alone; we need our community, we need YOU!

We are gathering the wood to spark and light our community fire. We invite you to join the circle and feed the fire with your offering, your creative gifts, your voice, your enthusiasm, and support. We are looking for programming partners, funders, organizers, and volunteers of all kinds. We encourage creative ideas and assistance with developing a strong network of underwriters, sponsorships, grants, and community support to help sustain the fire through the years.
